King Abdullah of Jordan wrapped up a one-day visit to Moscow on Wednesday after talks with President Vladimir Putin, said reports.
The two leaders had a "detailed, in-depth exchange of views" on the global fight against terrorism, the situation in the Middle East and the Iraqi issue, said the official Kuwaiti news agency (KUNA).
Russia's Itar-Tass news agency quoted King Abdullah as saying: "It is now extremely important to pool the efforts of all nations in fighting global terrorism in light of the tragic events of Sept. 11" in the US.
On the Middle East, Abdullah noted that Russia "is playing a fundamental role" in the region. Putin said Russia was aware of the king's efforts aimed at securing the settlement of the Middle East conflict.
The two leaders noted the need for continued work to counter religious extremism and fundamentalism, said the agency.
The king was received by the Russian press as a man who is trying his best to show the true face of Islam as a religion opposed to killing civilians, after the Sept. 11 attacks tarnished the image of Arabs and Muslims.
Amman has decided to send a limited armed contingent to Afghanistan along with a medical mission, which is not to accomplish any combat tasks, the government has announced, stressing the humanitarian nature of the mission.
