Iranian President Mohammed Khatami on Wednesday hailed relations between Tehran and Sanaa, saying their “strong bilateral ties" would ensure the region’s stability and progress.
Khatami’s remarks came after a meeting with Yemeni Planning and Development Minister Yemen Ahmed Mohammed Sufan, who conveyed to him a written message from Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh dealing with bilateral ties and issues of common concern, reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.
Khatami said the two countries “have the same views about today world's political and international issues, especially the Middle East problems and the Palestinian Intifada.”
He also said he hoped to visit Yemen in the near future, according to IRNA.
For his part, Sufan, who is also the Yemeni co-chair of the Iran-Yemen Joint Economic Commission, praised the two countries' high-ranking officials for their success in promoting good relations – Albawaba.com
