Iranian President Mohammad Khatami reviewed with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahatir Mohammed Wednesday bilateral ties between their two countries in a telephone conversation, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
The two officials underscored satisfactory cooperation between the two countries and expressed hope for further promotion and consolidation of such cooperation at the regional and international levels, said the agency.
Stressing the prevailing convergence, cooperation and common stance that both Iran and Malaysia share in issues relating to the Islamic world, Palestine in particular, Khatami appreciated overall Malaysian support for the Palestinian Intifada.
Pointing to his recent talks with the head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) about giving pace to measures for the defense of the oppressed Palestinian people, the Iranian president said that Islamic states should specifically channel their support for the Palestinian people and condemnation of “Zionist crimes” through the
OIC.
Mahathir, for his part, stressed on close cooperation between the two countries.
He termed as important and highly effective joint stance shared by Iran and Malaysia on issues in the Islamic world as well as on Palestine and said he would dispatch an envoy to Iran for talks on the Palestinian cause, said the agency – Albawaba.com
