The Sudanese government has ratified an international treaty banning nuclear tests, Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail said on Tuesday.
The Sudanese minister told journalists that the sovereign sector council headed by President Omar al-Beshir on Tuesday ratified the treaty and appointed the foreign ministry to sign the pact on behalf of the government, according to AFP.
"Sudan is committed to all provisions of the agreement as set by the International Atomic Energy Agency and calls for avoiding double standards with regards to possession of nuclear weapons," he said, referring to Israel.
But, Ismail added Khartoum would seek to benefit from nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. (Albawaba.com)
