Three foreign tourists taken hostage in southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan of Iran were freed, Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said on Sunday.
Kharrazi thanked the information ministry, the interior ministry and the respective department in his ministry for their intensive efforts to help secure safe release of two German nationals David Storm and Oliver Brug and Irish Aidan James Leahy.
According to IRNA, the three Europeans were travelling on bicycle to Pakistan from Iran through the drug dealer-infested Sistan-Baluchestan province when they were taken captives by local drug smugglers in the area on December 2.
Earlier in the day, spokesman for Iranian Foreign Ministry, Hamidreza Asefi, expressed satisfaction over the process of the activities being undertaken to get the three tourist hostages released and hoped for "good news" about them in the next few hours. (Albawaba.com)
