ALBAWABA - A number of unidentified armed men were seen targeting a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) branch in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, causing severe damage to the facility.

UPDATE

Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari announced the dismissal of the brigade commander in charge of the area that witnessed the riots surrounding the KFC in Baghdad.

A statement by the Ministry of Interior revealed that the security services were able to arrest several suspects in these riots, while search operations continued against those who contributed to the chaos.

A security source in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry spoke to Erem News regarding the incident. The source said that the explosive devices were placed at the restaurant at dawn and denoted them remotely.

"Unidentified gunmen riding motorcycles and wearing delivery workers' uniforms placed three explosive devices, at dawn today, in front of a restaurant affiliated with the American KFC agency on Palestine Street in central Baghdad, and detonated them remotely," the source told Erem News.

The source stated that no casualties or injuries were reported, however, the massive damage across the facility was reported as the explosive devices went off.ثاIt is speculated that the attack comes as calls for boycotting American brands and restaurants following the latest brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza. Earlier this month, several students were seen protesting outside a KFC branch in Baghdad in solidarity with the people of Gaza, demanding for the US-based chain to close its branches across Iraq.

Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 35,857+ people, with more than 80,293+ injuries.

Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
