ALBAWABA - According to a report by CBS News, the US Vice President and soon-to-be presidential candidate, Kamala Harris has secured the support of enough Democratic delegates to become the party's nominee for president.

A survey by the Associated Press revealed that VP Kamala Harris had received the endorsement of more than the  2,200 delegates in the Democratic Party, from over 30 states, needed to win the nomination in the first round of voting.

The current votes are not fully binding, the Democrats are set to cast their votes to officially choose their election representative between 1 and 7 August.

However, if Harris manages to maintain momentum and keep the votes AP surveyed, she will formally clinch the party's nomination.

Later on, Harris took to X, formerly Twitter, to express gratitude and readiness to take part in the presidential race, promising to devote all her efforts to defeating Donald Trump.

"Over the next few months, I'll be traveling across the country talking to Americans about everything on the line. I fully intend to unite our party and our nation, and defeat Donald Trump," Harris stated.

Since Biden's statement, millions of dollars in donations have flowed into Harris' campaign, and senior Democrats have queued up to back her pursuit for the Democratic nomination.

Speaking to campaign personnel at her offices in Wilmington, Delaware, on Monday evening, Harris said, "We have 106 days until Election Day, and we have some hard work to do".

"Our campaign has always been about two different versions of what we see as the future of our country. One focuses on the future, the other focuses on the past. Donald Trump wants to take our country backward... We believe in a brighter future that makes room for all Americans" Harris said.
