Libyan president Moamer Kadhafi said on Tuesday that a United States strike against Iraq would transform Iraq into a base for Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and for Afghanistan's former rulers, the fundamentalist Taliban.

"Iraq will become like Afghanistan" if Washington attacks the country to overthrow Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, he said in a statement, cited by AFP.

"If Iraq falls apart, it will be transformed into a bastion for the Taliban and Osama bin Laden." "If America thinks that in carrying out such a (military) action, it will succeed in eradicating terrorism, I say the contrary," Kadhafi expressed.

Moreover, Kadhafi said he would currently focus his time on the Muslim and African world and no longer concentrate on Libyan affairs. "I have definitively abandoned Libyan affairs in order to focus exclusively on strategic and international questions," he said. (Albawaba.com)
