A teenager allegedly stabbed to death his divorced mother to punish her for "immoral" behavior in what is seen as an "honor" killing.
According to the Jordan Times, quoting official sources, police officials arrested the 16-year-old boy for questioning in Monday's killing in Zarqa, northeast of the capital.
In its Wednesday report and according to an official source, the paper said the teen told police he killed his mother "to defend his family's honor because she had a bad reputation".
The boy and his mother, 37, who had been divorced for the past ten years, were not named in the report.
An autopsy conducted on Tuesday showed that the woman was killed as a result of forty stab wounds to various parts of her body allegedly inflicted by her son, when she went to visit him and a younger daughter who live with relatives.
The boy and his mother engaged in an argument, he grabbed a knife and began stabbing her. The woman tried to save her life by running into the street but he chased after her and continued to stab her, the sources said.
"In town, the victim was thought to have been involved in several immoral relations and the suspect knew this," one source was quoted as saying. (Albawaba.com)
