A Jordanian military court convicted six men Sunday of taking part in a scheme to attack tourists in Jordan and Israeli targets in the West Bank. The court sentenced the six, including one man who was tried in absentia, to jail terms ranging from three to five years. It acquitted two other defendants for lack of evidence, the AP reported.
The indictment did not specify any targets, but claimed the men received funds from an Islamic Jihad member in Saudi Arabia.
According to the indictment, the plotters received training in firearms and explosives in Syria and Lebanon. The attacks did not take place as Jordanian police arrested the defendants in February.
