Jordan has released the No. 2 figure in the Muslim Brotherhood, Zaki Bani Ersheid, after serving two-thirds of an 18-month prison sentence for criticizing the UAE, a spokesman told Associated Press.

Ersheid's release comes amidst conflicts within Jordan's branch of the pan-Arab Brotherhood, diminishing its role as the long-time main opposition party.

Ersheid was arrested in November 2014 after criticizing the UAE for calling the Muslim Brotherhood a "terrorist group."

There has been no comment about the release from Jordan's government.
