A two-week military training exercise kicked off in Jordan on Tuesday, with over 10,000 participants from 18 countries in attendance, reports the Associated Press.
Many of the participants are part of the US-led coalition fighting Daesh in neighboring Iraq and Syria.
The Jordanian in charge of the training, Brig. Gen. Fahad al-Damen, told the Associated Press that the rise of extremist groups mandates cooperation "to fight all aspects and types of terrorism."
Although this is the fifth time Jordan has hosted the "Eager Lion" drill, this year marks a change in momentum for the small MENA country's military operations in the region.
Since Daesh burned Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh to death earlier this year, Jordan has taken a proactive military approach against Daesh, carrying out aggressive airstrikes in Syria and Iraq.
Daesh could pose a serious security threat to Jordan, who is a key ally to the West.
