The draft resolution condemns “all violence and hostilities against civilians” in the blockaded area and is in a form that can be put to a vote, Jordan’s UN Ambassador Dina Kawar said on Tuesday.
The draft resolution calls for “an immediate, durable and fully respected cease-fire and the full and immediate withdrawal of the Israeli occupying forces from the Gaza Strip,” Kawar said.
She added that her country is “very happy” with a three-day truce between Israel and Palestinians, saying the aim of the draft resolution is to bring the Israeli onslaught on the besieged territory to an end and have it lead to the reconstruction of Gaza.
The 72-hour ceasefire between the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and Israel came into force in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning.
“We are in consultation with all council members and we hope by the next day or two that we come with a product,” Kawar said.
British Ambassador to the UN Mark Lyall Grant, who is the president of the Security Council for August, said that council ambassadors will meet and discuss the new draft on Wednesday.
About 1,900 people have been killed and over 9,500 others injured by the Israeli regime’s offensive against the Gaza Strip, which began on July 8.
The Israeli military says 64 of its soldiers have been killed in the conflict, but Hamas puts the fatalities at more than 150.
