ALBAWABA - The Eastern Military District in the Jordanian army announced foiling shooting down a drone carrying narcotics coming from Syria.

The Eastern Military District believes that it was a drug smuggling attempt, adding that there were multiple items that were seized and sent to the competent authorities to be handled professionally.

A military source spoke to Petra News agency saying that "The border guard forces in the eastern military region, in coordination with the security services and the Anti-Narcotics Department, detected an attempt by a drone to cross the border illegally from Syrian territory to Jordanian territory. The rules of engagement were applied, and the drone was shot down inside Jordanian territory,".

Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011, there have been numerous attempts to illegally enter Jordan and smuggle narcotics into the nation, with the majority of these operations emanating from Syria and Iraq.

Jordanian officials routinely report stopping drug and weapon smuggling efforts on its border with Syria. On July 18, the Jordanian army claimed that it had thwarted an attempt to transport 3,990 captagon tablets placed into a projectile from Syria.
