The Iranian Ambassador in Amman, Nosratollah Tajik, relayed that the Jordanian King was supposed to visit Iran earlier this month, but the trip was delayed due to the political climate in the region.
“The visit is a clear signal of the countries' desire to improve bilateral relations in all fields,” the official said.
Tajik told Al-Arab Al-Youm newspaper that the precise date of the visit would soon be announced. Citing the implementation of a water supply project from the Al-Disi region to Amman, the source mentioned an eagerness on the part of Iranian companies to enter into cooperatives and joint ventures with their Jordanian counterparts.
Tajik added that the Sixth Iran-Jordan Joint Commission would take place in
Iran next year and would be attended by the nations' Ministers of Industry.
Last year, King Abdullah met with Iran’s president Khatami in New York at the millennium session of the United Nations, the first such encounter since the two countries resumed diplomatic ties in the early 1990s. Relations between the Kingdom and Iran were severed following the 1980 Iraq-Iran war, when Jordan sided with Iraq and even sent some troops to fight in the eight-year conflict. (Albawaba.com)
