Sources affiliated to the Syrian opposition released a document with a Jordanian-Emirati plan to build 50,000 houses in southern Syria. Allegedly entirely financed by UAE, the source told Arabi 21 that the goal of the project is to stabilize the southern area of Syria and ensure a safe zone in proximity to the Jordanian/ Israeli borders at the same time. This in turn will alleviate pressure on the Syrian army.

According to the document, the UAE would fund the project which involves providing a house and a monthly salary for opposition fighters who in return will agree to undertake to stop the fight and not join any fighting group in the future.

The document also claimed that the plan entails preserving a combat force under Jordanian supervision to secure the Jordanian/ Emirati benefits as well as securing Israeli borders.

Investigations revealed that influential businessmen in Syria allegedly support this project, as there are attractive financial benefits coming from the UAE

Israel appears to support the project as it protects its benefits and rights in the region, Israel is also expecting to receive free security on its border with Syria from Jordanian troops.

According to the document the houses will not be built close to the Israeli border and a safe distance will be created to secure the Israeli border.
