The fourth Iran-Tunisia joint commission will be opened in Tehran on Sunday, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
The two-day meeting will be co-chaired by the two countries foreign ministers Kamal Kharrazi and Habib Ben Yahia who is due to arrive in Tehran on Saturday.
The second and third Iran-Tunisia joint commission were respectively held in Tehran (1999) and Tunisia (2000) after a lapse following the first one.
The existing religious and cultural commonalties of the two countries has cleared the way for Iranian and Tunisian scholars and intellectuals to strengthen the ancient relations, discussing cultural and political ties, as well as to examine the prospects of mutual ties, said IRNA. Meanwhile, officials are also to discuss putting into operation the economical agreements reached during visit in last April of Tunisian Prime Minister Muhammad Ghannouchi to Tehran, the agency said.
Last April, Ghannouchi made a four-day visit to Iran, which was the first by a high-ranking Tunisian official since Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution.
Tunis and Tehran severed diplomatic relations in the 1980s, but the two countries began to normalize relations in recent years, with Iran naming former foreign ministry spokesman Mahmoud Mohammadi in 1997 as its ambassador to Tunis – Albawaba.com
