The Temple Mount Faithful, an extremist Jewish group, has announced its intention to march on the Haram Al Sharief on Monday to lay the corner stone of the “Third Temple Mount,” reported Hamas movement on its internet site on Sunday.

Hamas added in the statement issued on its site “the Israeli government has allowed the establishment of the corner stone of the supposed temple mount near the holy Aqsa mosque.”

They added that the extremist group “has bought more then five tons of marble, one block of which is to be used as the corner stone, and the rest will be used to build the temple.”

This is planned to happen on the exact day of the Sharm El Sheikh summit. The “celebration” will take place near the holy mosque, which will be protected by “the enemy’s security forces.”

The statement also said that this will also take place at the exact time that President Yasser Arafat “submits to the demands of the Israeli government by imprisoning members of Hamas who were released earlier by the Palestinian authorities”

Hamas denounced this attempt describing it as “hostile, against the Arab and the Islamic nations.”

The movement called on the people to gather in the squares of the mosque on Monday morning in order to prevent such an attempt from taking place, and to defend the Aqsa from such an “aggression.”

United Nations Security Council Resolution 271 September 15, 1969 passed in the wake of an arson attack on the Aqsa Mosque by a pro-Jewish fanatic stated that “any attack of destruction or profanation of the religious buildings and sites in Jerusalem or any encouragement of, or connivance at, any such act may seriously endanger international peace and security.”

The Temple Mount Faithful claims that “the event has the approval of the Israeli authorities and will be protected by Israel security forces,” said Hamas statement.

In 1996, the group obtained Netanyahu government’s approval to open a tunnel under the holy Aqsa, sparking clashes which left 60 Palestinians dead -- Albawaba.com
