Jerusalem's Grand Mufti prohibited Palestinians on Friday from helping Israel to construct the West Bank separation wall, and branded any who did so as "traitors."

The old edict (or fatwa) was renewed because Israel commenced this week erecting the wall in Palestinian neighborhoods in and around Jerusalem.

A Palestinian parliamentary probe found Thursday some Palestinian firms had sold cement to Israel that it had used for building settlements in the West Bank.

The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Ikrima Sabri, told Reuters he had renewed a fatwa saying work on the wall was "banned religiously, and a sin."

"Anyone who helps construct this damned, racist wall, or supplies material for building it is a sinner... a traitor, and should be shunned, or made to leave our country," said senior cleric Sheikh Tayseer al-Tamimi, who preached Friday's sermon. (Albawaba.com)
