A Palestinian man grabbed a pistol from an Israeli security guard in Jerusalem's Old City and shot him on Friday, but was shot dead by another guard as he tried to run away, Israeli police said. Rescue teams reported that nine other people were wounded in the incident.
The assailant, roughly 20 years old, wrested the weapon from the guard in the Old City's Christian Quarter, shot him in the chest and fled, police and rescue services said.
Another guard ran after him, and the two briefly exchanged fire before the Palestinian died, Israeli police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said, according to the AP. Nine bystanders were injured by the gunfire, according to rescue services.
An eyewitness told Israel Radio that even after it was clear that the Palestinian had been killed, the Israeli guard continued shooting, causing additional injuries. Israeli police denied the charge.
