The first shipment of steel pipes from Japan for the 700-kilometer gas pipeline project, linking central Oman with Salalah, is due to arrive the sultanate shortly, said Oman Observer.
Two Japanese steel giants — Nippon Steel Corporation and Kawasaki Steel Corporation — have won orders to supply pipes for the prestigious project in a deal estimated to cost $55 million.
Nippon Steel and Kawasaki Steel will each supply 45,000 tons of steel pipes over a period of six months concluding in October this year, the daily added.
The company has been contracted by Dodsal, which is the construction contractor for the Salalah gas pipeline, to provide 24-inch diameter Electrical Resistant Welding (ERW) pipes for the 700-km pipeline running from Saih Nihayda in central Oman to Salalah – Albawaba.com
