Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Takeo Hiranuma will arrive Thursday in the UAE, on the first leg of a Gulf tour, according to a Japanese embassy statement issued Wednesday.

"The visit aims at bolstering the deep-rooted economic ties between Japan, which is the UAE's top trade partner, and the UAE, which is Japan's largest crude oil supplier and biggest Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) trade partner," the Japanese embassy said in the statement, cited by the official Emirati news agency, WAM.

During his visit, Hiranuma will tour the Upper Zakum oilfield, a major joint oil development project between Japan Oil Development Co. (JODCO) and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC).

On July 9, the minister will hold talks with prominent government officials, including Obeid bin Saif Al Naseri, the minister of petroleum and mineral resources, it said.

"He will discuss with Naseri bilateral relations and exchange views on world oil market conditions, stressing the significance of continued constructive dialogue between oil producers and consumers to ensure world market stability," the release added - Albawaba.com
