ALBAWABA - Japan urged its citizens in China to stay alert and avoid large gatherings amid rising tensions between Tokyo and Beijing following Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments about Taiwan.
The Japanese Embassy in Beijing advised nationals to “be aware of your surroundings and avoid, as much as possible, areas where large crowds gather or places likely to be frequented by many Japanese citizens.”

Government spokesperson Minoru Kihara said on Tuesday that the guidance was issued “based on a comprehensive assessment of the political and security situation in the region, as well as current social conditions.”
The diplomatic dispute erupted after Takaichi told parliament that Japan could consider a military response if force were used against Taiwan — the self-ruled island China claims as part of its territory.
