ALBAWABA - Following the drone attacks that are targeting the Global Sumud Flotilla, the Italian Defense Minister said that Rome is sending a navy frigate to help protect the flotilla during its trip to Gaza.

Guido Crosetto said on Wednesday that an Italian navy frigate was sent on a mission to assist a Gaza-bound flotilla, after organizers reported several of their boats had been targeted by multiple drones off Greece.

"To ensure assistance to the Italian citizens on the 'Flotilla'... I spoke with the Prime Minister and authorised the immediate intervention of the Italian Navy's multi-purpose frigate Fasan, which was sailing north of Crete as part of Operation Safe Sea," the Italian defense minister revealed in a statement on X.

"The vessel is already en route to the area for possible rescue operations", said the minister, adding that the Israeli authorities were informed of the decision.

The Global Sumud Flotilla experienced at least 13 explosions around the flotilla as it sailed off Greece late on Tuesday, with damage caused by "unidentified objects" dropped on deck.

The Global Sumud Flotilla wrote in a statement that "several drones shot down unidentified objects, communications were disrupted, and explosions were heard from several boats." It maintained, "We are witnessing these psychological operations that aim to make us afraid, but we will stay strong and won't be scared."
