ALBAWABA- Israeli President Yitzhak Hertzog's visit to the UAE for the COP 28 summit in Abu Dhabi took a contentious turn when he met with Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed in Dubai to discuss the ongoing Gaza situation and explore possibilities for the release of detainees held by Israeli authorities.
Israeli media reported on the meeting, citing discussions on collaborative efforts, such as sending aid to Gaza, establishing a field hospital at Rafah Stadium, and facilitating the medical transfer of injured children.
President bin Zayed expressed gratitude for the significant cooperation between "Israel and the Emirates."
Notably, key figures attended the meeting, including Chief of National Security Staff Tzachi Hanegbi, Director-General of the President's Residence Eyal Shuky, and Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ronen Levy.
However, this diplomatic engagement drew criticism, with the Iranian president boycotting the summit due to Israel's participation. Palestinian resistance groups, including Islamic Jihad, voiced their resentment towards the UAE for receiving the Israeli president amid the ongoing Gaza crisis.
