According to BNA, Israeli police were on high alert Today as up to 50,000 protestors entrenched at Kfar Maimon prepared to continue their march to Gush Katif to obstruct the planned disengagement in the Gaza Strip.
The police said they were ready to prevent the demonstrators from breaking through roadblocks and reaching their goal. Israel media reported that transport vehicles with soldiers had moved into position. On Monday, the police had initially blocked the planned protest march but after negotiations the demonstrators were allowed to spend the night in Kfar Maimon. The demonstrations are directed against the evacuation of 25 settlements in the Gaza Strip and the northern West Bank territory which are to begin on August 17.
