A 14-year-old Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya, said Palestinian medical sources. Musa Ibrahim al Muqayyad, was hit Monday afternoon in the back when troops opened fire on a group of young stone-throwers, the medical sources and witnesses said.
Earlier, Israeli troops swept Monday morning into the city of Beit Sahour and imposed a strict curfew, witnesses said. Scores of military vehicles rolled into the city amid opening intensive fire and tear-gas canisters. They used loudspeakers warning local residents from leaving home, witnesses said.
According to WAFA, they fired tens of tear-gas canisters towards schools near the "al-Sha'b Market".
Earlier in Jenin, Israeli forces arrested one Palestinian, security sources said.
At least 15 military jeeps rolled into the al-Mrah neighbourhood and arrested Dajana Hosni, 17, and led him to undisclosed area, security sources said.
In Israel, security forces Monday were on high alert for the start of "Independence Day" this evening, assuming that all Palestinian groups would aim at carrying out an attack during the holiday. According to Haaretz website, "intelligence information" indicates that Hamas has prepared several attacks in the Gaza Strip, and is also trying to get a bomber from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
