ALBAWABA - A number of Israeli airstrikes caused both Aleppo International Airport and Damascus International Airport to go out of service.
"At about 05:25 am on Sunday, the Israeli enemy simultaneously carried out an aerial act of aggression with waves of missiles from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea west of Lattakia and from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, a military source has announced" SANA Agency reported.
The Israeli overnight airstrike killed one civilian worker at Damascus airport and injured another worker. The airstrike also caused material damage to the runways at both airports putting them out of service.
Israel Hayom reported that the strikes not only forced Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to land in Baghdad instead of Damascus but also stopped an Iranian shipment of anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles from reaching the Syrian capital, Jewish News Syndicate reported.
According to the report, The Damascus airport was hit 10 minutes before a Mahan Air Airbus A340-313 from Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport carrying 10 tons of missiles was scheduled to land.
The subsequent strike on the Aleppo airport landing strip was intended to prevent the flight from diverting there, according to the report.
This airstrike counts as the third one within the span of 10 days, as on October 15th, the Israeli army launched overnight attacks on Aleppo International Airport that put it out of service, the Syrian defense ministry said in a statement.
"This new act of aggression affirms the criminal approach of the Israeli occupation entity, which is clearly embodied today in its continued crimes against the Palestinian people and the massacres it commits against innocent civilians, including women and children" the statement read.
