ALBAWABA - On Sunday night, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said that Gaza's electrical supply will be immediately cut off, leaving the blockaded Palestinian region in complete darkness.
The action comes after former US President Donald Trump and his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, threatened to relaunch Israeli military operations in Gaza if Hamas did not abide with Israeli requests.
According to Israeli media, Tel Aviv has laid up a strategy for intensifying actions, which consists of:
- Cutting off electricity and water supplies
- Launching airstrikes
- Reoccupying parts of Gaza as part of a broader military offensive
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for a massive military assault to "reoccupy Gaza" on Monday and threatened to cut off water and electrical supply.
In a similar vein, former National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called on Israel to strike warehouses that provide humanitarian food, saying that before beginning military operations, the aim should be to starve Hamas terrorists and their civilian sympathizers.
Israel Rejects the Terms of the Ceasefire
Israel has backed out of its obligations under the ceasefire agreement that went into force on January 19 after the first part of the prisoner exchange arrangement was completed. The Israeli administration has obstructed the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Gaza and rejected second-phase discussions.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, has charged Hamas of stealing humanitarian assistance, saying the organization is preventing supplies from getting to people. He issued a warning that until Hamas frees the other captives, further action would be done.
