Two Katyusha rockets fired into northern Israel Monday night provoked Tel Aviv Tuesday to threaten a retaliation that will make the Lebanese people as well as the government pay a heavy price for failing to take control of Lebanon's southern border.
The threat appeared in the Hebrew dailies of Yediot Ahronot and Haaretz to unnamed Israeli sources and senior intelligence officers.
"Israel cannot keep its arms folded as if nothing has happened, that is why we must seriously study our political response. On the military front, we will react in a time and manner that seems appropriate to us," Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom told Israel's Army Radio.
One rocket fell into the sea on the Lebanese side of the border and the other crashed in an industrial zone near the Jewish settlement of Shlomi, causing no damage or casualties. (albawaba.com)
