Israel reportedly plans to send a high-ranking delegation to Tunisia for a UN conference this coming November, according to an announcement by Israeli authorities on Monday.
Israel also announced its interest in establishing ties with Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim nation.
According to the AP, Israel's Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, who was born in Tunisia, is expected to attend the conference in an attempt to renew low-level ties which had been broken following the Palestinian Intifada in 2000, announced Israeli spokesman Mark Regev.
Despite the freeze of diplomatic ties between Israel and Tunisia, some commercial relations between the two countries still exist.
The announcements are thought to be part of an attempt to take advantage of possible shifts in policies towards Israel in the wake of Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and several West Bank settlements.
The development comes just days after Israel and Pakistan held a surprise meeting in Istanbul with the goal of establishing full diplomatic relations. Israeli authorities have expressed interest in renewing ties with ten Arab nations in the future.
