ALBAWABA - Israel revoked the travel permits of Palestinian diplomats, in a move seen as designed to curtail their movement in the occupied West Bank and abroad.

The first to bear the brunt of Sunday's action was Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki. He was crossing overland from Jordan into the West Bank, when he was detained by Israeli soldiers. He had his travel permit confiscated.

Malki said that he was returning from the Brazilian president’s inauguration when he was informed that Israel rescinded his travel permit, which allows Palestinian officials to travel freely in and out of the West Bank, unlike ordinary Palestinian citizens, according to the Palestinian Chronicle

The new restriction on diplomats is the latest move by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's rightwing government to increase hardships on Palestinians.

The Turkish Anadolu news agency said the Israeli move was in response to a Palestinian bid to seek the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s opinion on the decades-long Israeli occupation, the longest in modern history.

Palestinians condemned the Israeli move, saying it was a violation of international law.
