ALBAWABA - Israel ramped up its attacks on Southern Lebanon, launching at least 3 strikes killing 23+ people and injuring 31 others.

UPDATE

Nabatiyeh governor Howaida Turk told AFP that among those who were killed in the strikes earlier today is Mayor Ahmad Kahil.

"The mayor of Nabatiyeh, among others... was martyred. It's a massacre" Turk said. The Israeli strike targeted the municipality building, killing several rescue workers along the mayor.

Strikes targeted the towns within the areas of Jibchit and Aadchitin in the Nabatieh district, inflicting severe damage to Toul, Sir El Gharbiyeh, Braikeh, Qsaybeh, Kfar Jouz, Habbouch, and Deir El Zahrani, where a three-storey building was demolished.

Lebanese News Agency NNA reported that the strikes also targeted the towns of Nabatieh, Marjaayoun and Bint Jbeil.

According to Reuters, the US has expressed opposition to the scale of the Israeli attacks in Lebanon's capital, citing an increasing death toll and worries of broader regional escalation.

Since September 23, Israel has conducted a massive aerial campaign in Lebanon targeting what it alleges are Hezbollah objectives, killing over 1,500 people and displacing more than one million.

The aerial campaign follows a year of cross-border conflict between Israel and Hezbollah from the start of Israel's aggression on the Gaza Strip, during which Israel killed about 42,400 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children, after the Hamas attack.
