If Israel-Palestine peace talks fail, Middle East will erupt in "chaos," says Peres

Israel's President Shimon Peres warned Monday that the Middle East may erupt into violent chaos if peace talks collapse between Israelis and Palestinian, according to Agence France-Presse.

"It is crucial that these negotiations will be completed successfully. A failure to do so would be tragic for the Middle East. The situation in the Middle East can flare up overnight if the talks fail," Peres said Monday following a meeting with Romanian President Traian Basescu.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas told reporters earlier this week that the talks, which commenced in July 2013, have given and resulted in "nothing" as of yet for the Palestinian people.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who encouraged the resumption of talks after 2010 negotiations ended in stalemate, has been trying to have the Israeli and Palestinian delegations agree on a framework to guide the negotiations in the upcoming months ahead of the established April deadline.

However, the talks appear to have made little visible progress and increasing skepticism is growing among the international community about their success.
