Israel launched deadly cross-border strikes on Syria, killing over 38 civilians in Aleppo on Friday.

Israel carried out airstrikes in Syria on Friday, targeting several sites in the Aleppo countryside.

The attacks resulted in at least 38 fatalities, including Syrian soldiers, civilians, and five members of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.

The airstrikes occurred at approximately 1:45 am on Friday (22:45 GMT on Thursday). The targeted areas included a weapons depot near Aleppo International Airport and Syrian air defense facilities in Al-Saferah, about 20 km southeast of Aleppo city.

At least 36 Syrian soldiers were killed in the strikes, along with six Hezbollah fighters.

The Aleppo attack marked the highest number of Syrian forces killed in a single “Israeli attack” according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Hezbollah, a powerful Lebanese militant group, had weapons depots in the targeted area.

Israel has been conducting strikes in Syria for years. The recent escalation coincides with the ongoing war in Gaza and heightened tensions across the Israel-Lebanon border.

The conflict has also witnessed near-daily exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah, reminiscent of their 2006 conflict.
