Several countries -- including the United States, Britain, Germany and Japan -- have suspended funding to the UNRWA agency in response to Israeli allegations that some of its staff members participated in the October 7 attack by Hamas militants. ALBAWABA - In an interview with Tamedia, Philippe Lazzarini, head of UNRWA, said Israel is working hard to close down their agency. He said Israel wants to stop UNRWA from helping Palestinian refugees because it could affect their right to return home.

Lazzarini also mentioned that Israel is pressuring him to resign because they don't like UNRWA's work.

He explained that Israel's actions could have a big impact on Palestinian refugees and their future.

Lazzarini pointed out that Israel has taken several steps against UNRWA, like trying to stop food deliveries and revoking tax exemptions.

He added that Israel has attacked many UNRWA buildings during conflicts in Gaza.

UNRWA helps millions of Palestinian refugees with things like food and healthcare. But Israel has been targeting their facilities for years, causing a lot of damage.

After Israel accused UNRWA staff of being involved in attacks, the UN called for an investigation. Now, Israel wants UNRWA to stop operating completely and leave the region.
