ALBAWABA - Today, delegations from Hamas, Israel and the United States are set to gather in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh to hold talks about U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan.
U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed peace plan was met with agreement by both sides, Israel and Hamas, but talks are underway to set up all the details of the upcoming period.
President Trump had called on negotiators to "move fast" to end the nearly two-year war in Gaza. Trump's peace plan in the Gaza Strip included many points, including the end to the fighting and the release of all hostages in Gaza in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli jails.
AFP reported, citing an official in the Palestinian group, that Hamas's lead negotiator Khalil al-Hayya will be leading the delegation and will hold talks with Egypt and Qatar mediators in Cairo on Monday morning, before heading to Sharm El-Sheikh.
Negotiations will discuss and agree on "the date of a temporary truce", the official told AFP, as well as create conditions for a first phase of the peace plan, in which 47 hostages, who were taken on Oct. 7, 2023, are to be released.
"I am told that the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to MOVE FAST," Trump posted on Truth Social.
