ALBAWABA - The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it thwarted an attempt by Lebanon's Hezbollah movement to assassinate a senior security figure.
The Israeli army further mentioned that Hezbollah planned to assassinate a senior Israeli security figure using an explosive device. However, Israel didn't reveal the name of the personality that was targeted by the Iranian-backed group.
"We warned the targeted person before the bombing," Israel confirmed. The army further noted that the explosive device was linked to a remote control system and equipped with a camera and a mobile phone.
After the announcement, the army carried out a new airstrike against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon killing three members. According to the army, the Hezbollah members are within a military structure in southern Lebanon.
Since the start of the Gaza offensive, Hezbollah has been carrying out rocket attacks against Israel, in return, the army in Israel targeted many Hezbollah members in southern Lebanon.
In late July, Israel said to had killed a top Hezbollah commander in an air strike on a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. Fuad Shukr was killed in an Israeli airstrike on July 30.
Three civilians, including two children, had been killed and 74 wounded in the same strike that killed Shukr.
