Israel on Tuesday lifted censorship on the fact that the Israel Air Force carried out an air strike against a target deep in Syrian territory on September 6. So far, the Israeli military censor had prevented Israeli media from reporting on the strike.

However, the Israeli side is still maintaining censorship on the details of the air strike, including the target and the success of the strike, Haaretz newspaper reported.

The Israeli move come one day after the Syrian President, Bashar al Assad confirmed the air strike in an interview aired by the BBC. According to Assad, the air strike targeted an unused military building. He added that the operation showed Israel's "visceral antipathy towards peace."
