The Israeli army was bombarding Silwad village near the West Bank city of Ramallah with tank shells and missiles fired by helicopters Monday evening, in an anticipated attack in retaliation of the killing earlier of three Israelis by two armed Palestinian in Wadi el-Harimeyyah, Palestinian sources and eyewitnesses told Albawaba.com.

Two soldiers, and an Israeli settler were killed in the operation, while eight soldiers were injured.

The soldiers, traveling in a military transport, were killed after they were ambushed by Palestinian attackers who sprayed the bus with bullets from a passing vehicle, said the Jerusalem Post.

The settler, a teacher at the Neve Tsuf settlement, was apparently killed in the shoot-out while driving her car along the road, according to the paper.

The Israeli army has closed off the area with numerous roadblocks in an attempt to capture the assailants who may have managed to flee the scene, said the paper - Albawaba.com
