Islamic State militants attacked a riverside town north of Baghdad Monday, killing 17 people and wounding 54, Reuters reports. The extremists used gunboats and a car bomb to attack Dhuluieh before dawn.
According to Reuters, Dhuluieh is in an area of Iraq currently under the control of the IS.
Militants from the Islamic State took control of large swathes of northern Iraq in June. The U.S. has carried out air strikes in region to kill IS fighters and aid the Kurdish forces battling them.
