ALBAWABA - In a statement on Telegram, ISIS announced its responsibility regarding the Stabbing attack in the German city of Solingen, which killed 3 people and injured eight others.

In a statement on Saturday, the group said the perpetrator targeted Christians and was a "soldier of the Islamic State who carried out the attack to avenge Muslims in Palestine and everywhere".

The attack took place as thousands of people gathered in a downtown area on Friday evening to celebrate Solingen's 650th anniversary. One woman and two men were reportedly killed.

At a press conference on Saturday, Markus Caspers of the public prosecutor's office's counterterrorism unit stated that the perpetrator has not yet been located.

"So far, we have not been able to identify a motive, but looking at the overall circumstances, we cannot rule out the possibility of terrorism," Caspers told the press without offering further information.

Early on Saturday, a 15-year-old kid was taken into custody. According to Caspers, two female witnesses called the police, which led to his detention. They claimed to have overheard the boy and an unidentified individual discussing plans that lined up with what followed in the aftermath of the incident.

According to the German news agency DPA, police, including special forces, also searched a residence for asylum seekers in the heart of Solingen. On Saturday night, Nancy Faeser, Germany's Minister of the Interior and Communities, visited Solingen. She said that the government will make every effort to assist the city and its citizens.
