Islamic State militants attacked an oil and gas field in the Homs province Wednesday, killing at least 30 of Bashar al-Assad’s forces, a London-based monitoring group said.

Parts of the oil field are now under IS control, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, following Tuesday’s assault in Shaer.

Islamic State fighters were also killed during the battle, although the number is unknown, AFP reports.

IS has continuously attacked oil and gas refineries in Iraq and Syria to fund its militancy, making an estimated $3 million per day
