Iraqis celebrated en masse the 65th birthday of Saddam Hussein in Takrit where he was born, but the president was conspicuous, once again, by his absence.
AFP reported it was Saddam's cousin General Ali Hassan al-Magid, a member of the Revolutionary Command Council, and not the president who took centre stage in Takrit, 170 kilometres (105 miles) north of Baghdad, in Salaheddin province on Sunday. (Albawaba.com)
