Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan will visit Algeria soon for talks on strengthening bilateral ties, the state INA news agency reported Sunday.
The announcement was made during Ramadan's meeting with the Algerian ambassador to Baghdad, Mustapha Abu Tura, INA said, quoted by AFP.
On August 1, Iraq and Algeria signed contracts worth more than 100 million dollars on the occasion of an Algerian business delegation's visit to Baghdad.
The contracts were signed within the context of the United Nations' oil-for-food program by some 56 Algerian firms.
Iraqi Transport and Telecommunications Minister Ahmed Mortada had paid a visit to Algeria in July, where he co-chaired the 12th session of the two countries' "mixed commission,” said AFP at the time.
Algerian exports to Iraq are estimated at 55 million dollars (63 million euros) for the first half of 2001.
Deals worth 67 million dollars were signed when an Algerian delegation last visited Baghdad, said the agency.
Iraq has so far signed free trade agreements with Syria, Egypt and Tunisia and expanded its commercial relations with more Arab countries like Yemen and Jordan – Albawaba.com
