Iraqi forces clashed with ISIL militants in Baiji Tuesday one week after army troops reclaimed control of the country's biggest oil refinery, located on the outskirts of the town, according to Reuters.

ISIL fighters attempted to seize territory surrounding the oil facility but were pushed back by the Iraqi army, local residents said.

Militants from the extremist group denied they had been driven out of the Iraqi town in a propaganda video released online Monday.

"Yes they infiltrated some areas, but God willing, either they will withdraw or they will be exterminated," an ISIL speaker said in the clip.

ISIL militants had controlled the refinery since June before the army broke the siege in November.
