Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Salam al-Zobaie was undergoing surgery after a suicide bomb attack and his condition is "not stable," a senior Iraqi security official said on Friday.
Brigadier General Qassim Moussawi, spokesman for security in Baghdad, told Iraqiya state television Zobaie was injured in various parts of his body in a suicide bomb attack. "He is undergoing surgery now. His condition is not stable so far," Moussawi said.
An aide to Zobaie said he was wounded in the stomach and shoulder when the suicide bomber blew himself up in a hall where he was attending prayers on Friday, . The aide said al-Zobaie, a member of the main Sunni Arab political bloc, was hit by shrapnel in the blast.
An adviser to al-Zobaie was killed and his brother injured in the attack, media reports have indicated.
Police said six people were killed, including the adviser, and 10 others were wounded, including five of al-al-Zobaie's bodyguards.
