An Iraqi government official arrived Friday in Lebanon to assume his post as commercial attaché, the first such representation for his country in Beirut since diplomatic relations with Baghdad were severed in 1994, reported the Beirut-based Daily Star.
Rahmeh Saleh will open a trade office for his country in Shiyah, in yet another indication of improving relations, which were strained over the implication of Iraqi diplomats in the assassination of an Iraqi dissident in Beirut.
In a related development, the chairman of Lebanon’s Industrial Marketing Corp., Fares Saad, said that Lebanon had acquired 3,500 square meters at the Baghdad International Fair, and that some 82 Lebanese companies would participate in the exhibition's opening next month – Albawaba.com
