A suicide bomber killed at least 10 people and wounded 25 in a northern Iraq town on Sunday, Iraqi police sources said.

According to Reuters, the bomber self-detonated in Muqdadya, 80 kilometres northeast of Baghdad, in a cemetary that was full of people mourning and escorting the body of a prominent Sunni sheikh partaking in the funeral procession.

In 2013, Iraq has been rocked by intense sectarian violence that has sparked fears of the country returning to the severe unrest witnessed in 2006-2007.

Alongside the deaths caused by suicide bombings and sectarian violence, the Iraqi government has also executed over 150 people this year alone.
