A roadside bomb killed an American soldier on patrol in western Iraq, the U.S. military said Sunday. The attack occurred near Al Asad Air Base in a region near Syria.
Meanwhile, gunmen killed a Kurdish member of Iraqi parliament, his brother and the driver of his car and injured a second lawmaker in an ambush on their convoy north of Baghdad , police and officials said Sunday, according to The AP.
Faris Nasir Hussein, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party, died in the attack Saturday night, along with his brother and their driver, said Peshro Ibrahim, a National Assembly official.
Ibrahim said another PUK lawmaker, Haidar Shanoun, was wounded in the same shooting attack near the town of Dujail, 50 miles north of Baghdad.
In another development, authorities reported finding over 20 bodies Sunday. Four of the dead were found handcuffed and shot in east Baghdad. Twenty more were dragged from the Tigris River near Balad, a city 50 miles north of the capital, police reported.
